About the Moon

When the Sun and Moon are aligned on the same side of the Earth, the moon is "new", and the side of the Moon facing Earth is not illuminated by the Sun. As the moon waxes (the amount of illuminated surface as seen from Earth is increasing), the lunar phases progress through new moon, crescent moon, first-quarter moon, gibbous moon, and full moon. The moon is then said to wane as it passes through the gibbous moon, third-quarter moon, crescent moon and back to new moon. The terms "old moon" and "new moon" are not interchangeable. The "old moon" is a waning sliver (which eventually becomes undetectable to the naked eye) until the moment it aligns with the sun and begins to wax, at which point it becomes new again. Half moon is often used to mean the first- and third-quarter moons, while the term 'quarter' refers to the extent of the moon's cycle around the Earth, not its shape.

Did you Know……..

The New Moon always rises at sunrise.

And the first quarter at noon.

The Full Moon always rises at sunset.

And the last quarter at midnight.

Moonrise takes place about 50 minutes later each day than the day before. The new moon can not be seen because the illuminated side faces away from the earth. This occurs when the Moon lines up between the Earth and the Sun.

To Prepare Moon Water

1. Wait for a clear night, preferably on or right before the full moon. put your crystal in a clear glass and cover with one cup of purified water.
2. Check an almanac for the exact time of sundown on the day you have chosen. At sundown, place the glass out of doors in a moonlit place (cover the glass with clear plastic wrap).
3. Remove the glass at dawn. The water is now filled with lunar potency. Drink the moon water every morning to prepare your body, mind and spirit for the stress of the day.

What is The Blood Moon?
The brilliant hues of a blood moon come from the edges of the sun peeking around the Earth, catching the atmosphere. It’s essentially a global sunset shining on the moon, which has to be in just the right position to catch those rays.
In other words, Lunar eclipses happen when the moon, sun, and Earth are aligned in such a way that the Earth’s shadow covers the moon. During a blood moon, the moon turns a red hue because of the way the sun is filtered through Earth’s atmosphere, projecting a crimson color onto the moon’s surface.

The significance for a Witch, it’s a rare event, so lots of magic going on, with all that energy. The Moon when full, gives us more energy to work with, so when these special events happen we should make the most of it, get out and enjoy!!
